Before I begin writing about Zimoun, I advise you to quietly watch the video and simply appreciate.
Z I M O U N: ‘Using simple and functional components, Zimoun builds architecturally-minded platforms of sound’.
These soundscapes are manufactured using the simplest of components that have been obsessively and combined on a large scale. The clean and simple structures create a minimalistic atmosphere that almost seems to mimic an alternative universe; everything has been perfectly aligned to create this single sound in a controlled atmosphere. His complex soundscapes are produced mainly through industrial motors, wires, fans…everything we have around us in our lives creating these sounds through an electrical component. He has stripped these of their core purpose and incorporated them into a controlled and selective environment in order to produce a ‘sound sculpture.’ The simplistic beauty created within his work is seen both through the kinetic sound and the ability to watch the repetitive motion generated by the motors.
‘The sound emitted by them is not an after effect, or an afterthought. It’s a core principal of his practice.’
